A great day today back at The Watford Open #thewon
Today we saw a couple of fighters embark on new category boundaries with Hollie moving up to the Young Cadets sections and Keris moving up to the Junior Ladies. We also had Oscar and Rehaan attend their first big level competition. On top of that we saw Junior Instructor Lucy Hicks step back on the mats after a long period off for injury straight back into Junior Ladies and we had Instructor Miss Atlanta Hickman return to the mats after maternity leave too. A day of firsts and comebacks for the team and it was a great day for all. It was really good having a full team all ready and raring to go – team spirit was high and on form.
A team of 13 fighters brought home 4 golds, 5 silvers and 2 bronzes. Everyone fought well, listened, those that didn’t place all tried their best and learnt something from the day to take back to train strong for next time. Proud Sensei all round.
Senior fighter of the day goes to Atlanta Hickman who not only did well to be competition standard ready after only one month full training back after her maternity, she smashed her section bringing home Gold.
Junior fighter of the day goes to Harlee Hooker. Harlee has had a tough few competitions narrowly missing out on podium places with his sections being one of the biggest in the sport amongst teenage boys. He’s kept his head in the game and put his all in training. Today all the pieces came together in his light continuous section where he pipped off his opponents to take a very well deserved gold. Keep that momentum Harlee.
Thanks to parents and supporters for the day. Huge thanks to the coaching team for yet again giving up their Sunday to come down and coach the ever growing team – it’s much appreciated.
